What a Crazy, Whirl-wind weekend! The Woga Classic hosts 9 sessions a day, and welcomes athletes from all over the United States and the World. Beginning on Saturday morning, Byers competed their hearts out and laid it all on the line until the sun went down on the competition late Sunday evening! With 3 gyms hosting competitions all at the same time, right next to one another, the meet had the illusion of a three ring circus!! Although the competition was difficult, the girls proved to be more than able to handle the pressure! Saturday morning started off bright and early with the level 9's. Although it was difficult for the girls to get going in the morning due to the time change, they were ready for a solid start on beam. Although there were a few missed skills and bobbles, over all the girls handled their nerves & the early start fantastically!! The rest of the morning seemed to build in enthusiasm and focus and the 9's turned in great performances on the remaining three events! The 10's followed them immediately and it was great to watch Lauren Eller step up to the plate after missing the last competition due to the SAT's. The girls started on floor, making a statement right from the very beginning with their confident, eye-catching performances!! Vault was just as solid, and although bars and beam had a few mistakes, the girls fought through to the very end with tenacity! Saturday night was the highlight performance of the weekend, as Katelyn competed in the Elite meet!! With poise and calm-confidence Katelyn surpassed all of the other competitors to take FIRST PLACE as the foremost senior elite competitor in the WOGA Classic. Katelyn stood apart and above all other elites, both from the US and international teams. Starting on bars, she turned in a solid routine. Her beam routine has never looked better and she danced and tumbled her way up and down the 4" wide surface as if it were the floor! With many of the competitors falling on floor, Katelyn was a welcome change as she nailed every single dance and tumbling pass during her routine! As she finished her vault the Byers fans watching closely nearby stood to their feet cheering!! Katelyn had just turned in an incredible all around competition!!!
The next day the level 8's began competing in the afternoon. The girls started on bars and continued on to beam where many of the girls hit personal season bests! Having two of the most nerve-racking events out of the way, the girls looked forward to really having fun out on floor!! Once again they brought their best showmanship abilities to the forefront with each and every athlete hitting their routine! Vault has continued to improve with each meet & Sunday was no exception! (A special hurrah to Feliz, who won the all around on her 15th Birthday - yay Feliz!). As awards for the 8's finished in one gym, the 7's began to warm up next door. The girls started out with great attitudes and a determination to finish off this weekend on a high note for Byers! Although they were up against tough competition, many of the girls stepped up and performed beautifully on all four events! They began on vault, flying high and nailing Great landings! Bar warm ups seemed questionable, but when the girls stepped up to compete, there was no question that they knew how to hit a solid bar routine. They performed beam with confidence & soon looked forward to finishing strong on floor!! Performing their hearts out and going after every dance and tumbling element, the 7's completed the competition with beautiful routines!
