Eli Rodriguez: Gym Owner/Head Coach
I started my gymnastics career at the age of 5 in Sacramento
California. I had a lot of energy as a child so my parents thought
gymnastics would be a good outlet for this energy. I began taking
classes at Byers Gymnastics Center in 1976 and continue to be a part of
the program presently. My accomplishments in gymnastics are
extensive along with making the USA National Team from 1982-1987, and
receiving a full athletic scholarship to California State University,
Fullerton and competing for the school 1985-1990. During my college
career I met my wife Debbie.
As a coach, I started coaching at Byers when I was 15 years old.
I took a break in college and resumed in 1990. Since 1998, my wife
Debbie and I have been owners of byers gymnastics Center, Massie Court and
then in September 2000, along with considerable help from Karl and JoAnne
Byers, we opened a second location in the Elk Grove area.
Debbie Rodriguez: Gym Owner/Head Coach
I started my gymnastics career at the age of 5 in a dance studio
located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The coaches recommended that I
try an actual gymnastics club because I was too advanced for their
program. My parents then enrolled me at Altadore Gymnastics
Club. I began competing in the 5th grade and gradually worked my way
up to the Elite level. I competed at the Elite Level for 3 years and
qualified to the Canadian National Championships in 1984, 1985, & 1986
and placed 16th, 18th, & 16th respectively. My senior year in
high school, I was recruited by Cal State Fullerton and I accepted their
offer of a full-athletic scholarship for gymnastics in 1986. During
my freshman year at Cal State Fullerton, I met Eli Rodriguez, who was on
the Men's Gymnastics Team, and we have been together ever since.
Academically, I graduated form high school in 1986 with an advanced
high school diploma (extra sciences). In 1994, I graduated form Cal
State Fullerton with a B.S. degree in Physical Education. In 1995, I
went back to school and received my A.A. degree in Physical Therapy and
became a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. I worked at an
outpatient clinic for 8 years and became a certified weight trainer in
1999.
As a coach, I started working at my club in Canada when I was in High
School, I then took a break in college, and started again in 1989. I
have been doing it ever since! Since 1998, my husband Eli and I have
been owners of Byers Gymnastics Center, Massie Court. Then in
September 2000, along with considerable help from Karl and JoAnne Byers,
we opened a second location in the Elk Grove area. Currently, I am
LOVING ALL OF IT!
