Mary was exposed to the sport of gymnastics at an early age. Her parents started Byers
Gymnastics in 1972 in northern California. Having learned a forward roll before she could
say its name, it was evident that Mary would be following in her parents' footsteps. She
very successfully competed for the Byers Gymnastics team from the age of seven to
seventeen. She was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern
California in 1983, where she competed through here college years and earned her BA. After
returning home and teaching gymnastics for her parents in Sacramento, in 1989 Mary decided
to venture south to San Diego and build her own program... Gym*Kids! Aside from running
the business and teaching classes, Mary is busy at home with her husband, Mike, and
children, Alec and Ian. Mary is First Aid, CPR, and Safety certified, a member of USA
Gymnastics, and has her KAT accreditation and certificate in Early Childhood Education.
